A.K. Puri will be CMD
at BHEL
New Delhi: A.K. Puri, currently on the board of
Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) as Director (Power),
has been selected to take over as Chairman and Managing
Director of the public sector power equipment major.
BHEL has been functioning without a regular chief since
October last year when K.G. Ramachandran retired from
the post.
Puri will be taking over charge from H.W. Bhatnagar, who
has been heading the public sector undertaking as Chairman
of the Committee of Directors. The committee was formed
by the Government in February this year following a petition
filed in the Delhi High Court.

RBI Dy.Governors assume charge
Mumbai: The two newly appointed Deputy Governors
of the Reserve Bank of India assumed charge on Tuesday.
Ms Shyamala Gopinath, Executive Director, RBI and V. Leeladhar,
Chairman and Managing Director of Union Bank of India,
were appointed as Deputy Governors by the Government on
Monday.
Ms Gopinath will hold charge for a period of five years
or till she attains the age of 62 years, whichever is
earlier, till June 2011, while Leeladhar will hold charge
till attaining the age of 62 years, that is, till December
2008, as per the notification.
Gopinath will oversee Department of Government and Bank
Accounts, Department of Expenditure and Budgetary Control,
Department of Non-Banking Supervision, Foreign Exchange
Department, Legal Department and Central Security Cell.
Leeladhar will oversee Department of Information Technology,
Department of Administration and Personnel Management,
Human Resources Development Department, Premises Department,
Rural Planning & Credit Department and Urban Banks
Department.
