V.K. Sharma is new Executive Director at RBI
Mumbai: The Reserve Bank of India has appointed V.K. Sharma as an Executive Director. He will look after the Internal Debt Management Department and the Premises Department, said an RBI press release.

Prior to this, Sharma was the Regional Director for West Bengal, Sikkim and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

A.K. Puri takes over as CMD of BHEL
New Delhi: A.K. Puri, Director (Power), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), has assumed charge as the Chairman and Managing Director of the public sector power equipment major. He took over from H.W. Bhatnagar, who was functioning in his capacity as Chairman, Committee of Directors.

An electrical engineer and an MBA in marketing and finance, Puri joined BHEL in 1976 after a brief stint in the private sector.

With over 35 years of professional experience, Puri has made significant contributions in key functions like corporate management, management services, domestic/international marketing, planning and manufacturing.

As head of BHEL's manufacturing units at Bangalore, Puri spearheaded the introduction and assimilation of modern technology for controls and instrumentation (C&I) involving design, production, assembly and testing and the resultant production facilities were set up in record time.

Maple Leaf award for Tata Steel staff
Mumbai: Tata Steel employees, Prashant Kumar and Shiva Prakash Rao, of the company's Procurement division have been declared winners of this year's Maple Leaf Award.

The International Federation of Purchasing and Materials Management (IFPMM) has announced this award for the paper titled "Value Creation through Strategic Sourcing" presented by them. The team from Tata Steel has made its way to the worldwide finals by clearing regional and national competitions.

The team will be invited to participate in the annual convention of IFPMM in China in 2005. The Maple Leaf Award is an international award organised through an annual competition amongst authors who have written actual and future oriented papers concerning the materials management profession and its development.
