Zee
Tele gets approval for sports channel
Mumbai: Zee Telefilms Ltd (ZTL) has received necessary
regulatory approvals to launch a sports channel, Subhash
Chandra, Chairman and Managing Director, has said.
"We
have received uplinking approvals. The test signals should
be available in a day or two," Chandra told shareholders
of ZTL at the annual general meeting on Tuesday. The company
had earlier said that its sports channel, Zee Sports,
would go on air from October 2.
He
declined from specifying what ZTL's contingent plans would
be if the company does not bag the telecast rights of
cricket matches to be played in India over the next four
years.
According
to Chandra, during the current fiscal, ZTL's focus would
rest on growing its subscription base. Chandra said. "Zee
is well placed to take advantage of the potential growth
in DTH," he said. Zee's DTH operations under the
brand name Dish TV is available in 1.50 lakh homes.

BPL
dispute will be resolved amicably
Bangalore: Rajeev Chadrasekhar, Chairman &
CEO, BPL Mobile Group, said his dispute with the patriarch
of BPL family, T.P.G. Nambiar, would be "amicably
resolved" shortly.
The
BPL patriarch took his son-in-law, Chandrasekhar, to the
Company Law Board for alleged mismanagement of the mobile
company and discrepancies in its shareholding pattern.
The CLB had ordered maintaining status quo in shareholding
pattern after the petition moved by Nambiar.

BHEL net profit up 48 percent at Rs.658
crore
New Delhi: Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL),
the public sector engineering and power equipment major,
has completed yet another successful year with its net
profit soaring by over 48 per cent to Rs.658 crore on
an all-time high turnover of Rs.8,662 crore.
For
its shareholders, it has translated into an enhanced equity
dividend of 60 per cent, the highest proposed so far by
the navratna public sector undertaking.
BHEL
has recorded a quantum surge in economic value addition
(EVA), which catapulted to Rs.366 crore in fiscal 2003-04,
underlining BHEL's track record of being one of the top
wealth creators in the country.
The
company's profit before tax (PBT) vaulted past the Rs1,000-crore
mark at Rs.1,015 crore and its earnings per share (EPS)
also jumped by 48 per cent to Rs26.89. This apart, both
its net worth at Rs5,278 crore and its net asset value
(NAV) per share at Rs.215.6, also went up by over 12 per
cent.

Hyundais Getz sales off to
a roaring start
Coimbatore: The response to Hyundai's new hatchback
Getz' has exceeded the expectations of the company
and it hopes that the new model would clock annual sales
of 18,000 units compared with 12,000 units expected initially.
The
company said that while it was earlier looking at a monthly
average sale of 1,000-1,100 units, the current demand
is running at about twice that number.

Bhartis cordless phone at 2.4
Ghz
New Delhi: Bharti Teletech has rolled out the country's
first cordless phone range that works on 2.4Ghz radio
frequency. The new phones will provide enhanced clarity
and three time better range than the traditional cordless
phones.
It
also prevents interference with other cordless telephones
and electronic equipment - a problem common in the traditional
cordless phones.
The
company is looking at increasing its share in the coreless
telephone market from 40 per cent to 50 per cent with
sales of one million 2.4 Ghz phones over the next two
years.
The
move comes after the Department of Telecom de-licensed
the indoor use of low power equipment at 2.4 GHz radio
frequency. The range includes 3 models each of the Beetel
and the GE brand.
Bharti
Teletech has a strategic alliance with Atlinks (a Thomson
subsidiary) to manufacture fixed line phones for global
exports and exclusively distribute the GE range of fixed
line phones in India.

Finacle
outperforms industry standards
Bangalore: Infosys Technologies Ltd has said that
its universal core banking solution, Finacle, has achieved
the highest scalability, that is, transactions throughput
per second (TPS) of 11,180 in online mode and 19,568 TPS
for batch mode.
With
this, Finacle has bettered its own previous record of
7,357 TPS for online transactions and outperformed the
industry's standards. Ernst & Young has reviewed the
new benchmark test.
Finacle
achieved the feat on HP Superdome servers powered by Intel's
Itanuim 2 processors running Oracle 9.i.

Enfield
launches Bullet Electra in the UK
Chennai: Royal Enfield has launched a new international
model, the Bullet Electra 500, in the UK.
According
to a press release from the company, this latest model
is equipped with a 500-CC lean burn engine and a 5-speed
gearbox.
The
UK is Royal Enfield's largest export market, where it
is positioned as a classic bike. The new model will help
consolidate Royal Enfield's position among the top 10
selling brands in the 125 cc - 500 cc segment in the UK,
the release said.
Royal
Enfield's other models exported to the UK include Bullet
Sixty 5, Bullet Euro Classic, Bullet Deluxe and the Bullet
Army. Its motorcycles are exported to over 25 countries
including the US, Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
