crore power plant order for BHEL
New Delhi: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL)
has bagged an order worth Rs625 crore from Madhya Pradesh
Electricity Board for setting up a 210 MW unit at Amarkantak
thermal power station.
The
order relates to setting up of one unit of 210 MW capacity
thermal plant on a turnkey basis in 24 months. The commissioning
of the project would help in improving the power situation
in the state.
BHEL
had earlier supplied and commissioned four thermal sets
of 210 MW each at MPSEB's Birsinghpur and Satpura power
stations.

FDA
nod for Natco Pharma's API plant
Hyderabad: Natco Pharma Ltd (NPL), the Hyderabad-based
Rs154-crore pharmaceutical company, has announced that
it has obtained the approval from the United States
Food and Drugs Authority (USFDA) for its active pharmaceutical
ingredients (APIs) manufacturing facility located at
Mekaguda in Mahboobnagar district of Andhra Pradesh.
The company has already received approval from the Danish
Health Ministry for marketing of Ondansetron in 4 mg
and 8 mg tablets form, opening the European Gateway
for the company. Natco has also received UK Medicine
& Health Regulatory Agency's marketing approval
for its Metronidazole in 400 mg tablets form.
The company has already filed seven drug master files
(DMFs) with the USFDA and proposes to file another six
DMFs by the current fiscal-end, essentially in the area
of anti-depressants, anti-emetic and anti-cancer therapies.
The company says it is actively pursuing steps connected
with the compliance with the Mutual Recognition Protocol
in Europe for approvals from more EU countries.
The company has also drawn up elaborate expansion plans,
which includes a new production block at Mekaguda in
conformity with FDA standards. The expansion is expected
to be ready by June next year. Further, the company
is also planning additional capacity at the formulation
facility of Kothur providing for eight additional modules.
In addition, the company is also planning the construction
of a dedicated anti-cancer and anti-viral block and
a separate block for chemical intermediates. On completion
of this expansion, the company's facility would become
one of the biggest and modern in both APIs and finished
dosage formulations, the release said.

HPCL
to tender for e-fuel stations
Hyderabad: Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd
will establish 500 new retail outlets, 70 per cent of
them in the rural areas, by March 2005. The company
is also set to call for global tenders for 500 fully
automated or e-fuel stations.
HPCL is in the process of inviting tenders for e-fuel
stations or fully automated retail outlets where the
billing is reconciled instantaneously.
HPCL also plans to roll out a sales promotion campaign
in Andhra Pradesh targeting high speed diesel customers.

Ind. hub centre comes up in Hong Kong
Mumbai: VIP Industries Ltd has said that it has
set up a new hub centre in Hong Kong to tap the $750
million (around Rs3,435 crore) luggage market in the
South East Asia and Asia Pacific region.
The company is planning to launch its recently-acquired
British brand, the Carlton range, in this market.
The company would be using its Hong Kong office to source
good quality soft luggage accessories and semi-finished
luggage components from the competitive Chinese industry.
The company also plans to set up a modern design centre
at the Hong Kong office to ensure that its design and
new product developments are in step with global trends.
The company would also source new designs from designers
for the global market.

Xerox
stake in India arm up at 86 per cent
New Delhi: Xerox Corporation has announced the
acquisition of MCorpGlobal's 36.4 per cent stake in
Xerox Modicorp for an undisclosed sum, taking its total
stake to 86 per cent.
The company, which has been under the scanner in the
US and in India for payment irregularities, plans to
make its Indian arm a wholly owned subsidiary.
The FIPB and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) have approved
the buyout, the statement said. The remaining 14 per
cent equity in the company is with the public and Modi
Rubber.

IBM
launches world's 'smallest' desktop
New Delhi: IBM India has announced the launch
of the new ThinkCentre S50 ultra small, the world's
smallest full functional desktop PC and targeted at
the value space.
The price of the desktop ranges between Rs38,000 and
Rs48,000 depending on the configuration. At 5.9 kg and
a footprint smaller than many notebook PCs, the new
desktop includes IBM's patented think Vantage Technologies,
which helps in reducing system operating costs, the
company said.
The ThinkCentre S50 ultra small features an internal
power supply, one PCI slot, one Slim-line optical drive
slot, one 3.5-inch internal hard drive and Intel Pro-1000
Enternet.

Nokia
launches 'Vertu' premium handsets
New Delhi: Mobile handset leader Nokia has launched
its super premium mobile phones under the brand name
Vertu in the country.
The phones, priced between Rs2.42 lakh and Rs17.2 lakh
apiece, will be distributed through Regent Watch and
Jewellery stores at Delhi and Mumbai initially.
Both the lines of Vertu phones - Signature and Ascent
- have been launched in the country. The phones comprise
precious metals such as white gold, yellow gold, platinum,
scratch resistant sapphire crystal face and jewelled
bearings.
The company says that Vertu is not a mass-market product
and the company's sales strategy will be focused on
individual buying.

Bangalore: Madura Garments' premium brand for
corporate wear, Van Heusen, has forayed into the mens
innerwear category with the launch of briefs, vests,
boxers, loungewear and thermal wear.
The Van Heusen innerwear is priced between Rs110 and
Rs180, while loungewear falls between Rs699 and Rs845.
This collection will be available at all the exclusive
Van Heusen showrooms, Planet Fashion, Trouser Town and
leading multi-brand outlets.
The domestic mens innerwear market is estimated at 350
million units ands valued at about 2500 crore. The premium
segment of this market, priced above Rs90, and estimated
at Rs350 to Rs400 crore, is growing at 20 per cent annually.
