L&T to ramp up operations in Bangalore, Mysore
Bangalore: Engineering giant Larsen and Toubro Ltd has said that it plans to hire over 600 professionals in one year for its embedded solutions and engineering services centres at Mysore and Bangalore.

The firm will start with about 100 people in the embedded solutions group and also begin its engineering services business here, for which business heads have been appointed. The Mysore centre which has 200 professionals will be ramped up to over 500 in one year.

Two-wheeler sales up 13 per cent in H1
New Delhi:
A robust motorcycle market, surging scooter sales and modest moped market, pushed two-wheeler sales up by 13.1 per cent during the first half of this fiscal.

A total of 28.7 lakh two-wheelers were sold during April-September 2004 compared to 25.4 lakh units sold during the year ago period, data compiled by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) showed.

Motorcycle and step-thru sales, which constituted about 78 per cent of the total two-wheeler sales in India, the second-biggest market after China, rose 14.3 per cent at 22.4 lakh units.

Scooter and scooterettee sales rebounded by posting an impressive 10.4 per cent jump at 4.74 lakh units while its sibling moped sales grew 6.53 per cent at 1.60 lakh units.

In the motorcycle and step-through segment, India's biggest motorcycle maker Hero Honda posted a massive 34.5 per cent growth at 11.9 lakh units.

Bajaj Auto recorded a growth of 20.2 per cent at 5.68 lakh units during the first six months this fiscal.

Gas find at new well at Hazira
Ahmedabad: State-owned Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Limited (GSPCL) has discovered gas from a new offshore well at Hazira field on the west coast of Gujarat. From an initial production of 0.5 metric million standard cubic meters per day (mmscmd) of gas from the new well, GSPCL is firming up plans of achieving a production of 5 mmscmd by the end of the current fiscal. The company is planing to drill a total of 16 offshore wells in the field including four oil wells.

The Hazira field is spread over 50 square km area and GSPCL holds 67 per cent stake in the joint venture effort. As per the company's estimates, the field has 28 billion cubic meters of gas resources and potential to produce 5,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
