AP
to spread social safety net plan
Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh Government has plans
to spread its 'social safety net programme' (SSNP) wider
by covering 7,500 more employees who have gone on VRS
by March 2006.
The SSNP, a wing of the implementation secretariat entrusted
with the task of public sector reforms in the state, is
aimed at addressing the impact of job-loss trauma, an
outcome of downsizing the enterprises. It focuses on skill
improvement and prepares the retired staff to take self-employment
projects.
The SSNP programme has so far covered 5,500 people who
took VRS. Over 2,000 people were given VRS so far in Andhra
Pradesh after public sector reforms began.
