The Bear raises its ugly head
Mumbai: The Sensex continued with the bearish phase
in equities with a widespread decline in prices, cutting
across sectors. Broader indices such as the CNX 500, the
CNX Mid-Cap 200 and Nifty Junior declined in a more pronounced
manner. Even though Infosys exceeded market expectations
on their bottomline figures, it lost Rs67.60 and closed
at Rs1903.35.
Interestingly, every seventh stock traded on the BSE
on Wednesday was locked in the lower circuit. Market reports
have it that this is for the first time in the history
of Indian stock market that such large number of stocks
has hit the lower circuit, with such a phenomenon not
experienced even on May 17 last year, which saw the historic
fall in stock indices.

London
Stock Exchange woos small Indian companies
Kolkata: The London Stock Exchange (LSE) is aiming
to enlist small and even unlisted Indian companies for
its AIM platform. The facility entails listing, including
primary listing, of a company in its early stage.
Two LSE nominated advisors - Grant Thronton and KPMG -
were actively scouting for small private entities and
corporates seeking access to foreign capital or raising
capital in foreign currency. A UK-based broking firm is
also expected to set up shop in India to help entities
in seeking admission to the AIM platform. AIM does not
require past trading record, nor does it specify a minimum
size of public holding as an entry criterion.
An entity seeking listing on the AIM needs to appoint
and retain a LSE-nominated advisor. It is also required
to appoint a broker.
Only the nominated advisor, who stays on with the company
as long as the listing continues, vets the admission document.
LSE has a total of seventy-two such nominated advisors.
In case of an unlisted entity, the nominated advisor also
prepares the initial public offering and carries out the
merchant banking operations for the issuer.
