Reliance Info and RCIL
appoint independent directors
Mumbai: The Supreme Court advocate and tax consultant,
Y.P. Trivedi, and a former secretary with the Union Government,
M.P. Modi, were inducted as independent directors on the
boards of Reliance Infocomm Ltd (RIC) and Reliance Communications
Infrastructure Ltd (RCIL).
This is consequent to a request from the boards of the
two companies at their meetings on December 22 last year
that two independent directors of Reliance Industries
Ltd be suggested for appointment as independent directors
for RIC and RCIL, said a news release from Reliance Infocomm.
According to the release, "The appointment of Y.P.
Trivedi and M.P. Modi as independent directors is a step
towards establishing higher levels of corporate governance."
Besides being a director of RIL and other leading companies,
Trivedi is also chairman of the Audit Committee, and a
member of Shareholders/Investors Grievance Committee,
Corporate Governance and Shareholders Interface Committee
and the Remuneration Committee of the Directors of RIL.
Modi has been a Director at Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL)
since March 28, 2001, said the release. He is Chairman
of the Audit Committee of Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals
Ltd and ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company Ltd and
Member of the Audit Committee, Corporate Governance and
Shareholders Interface Committee of the Directors of RIL.
The existing directors on the boards of these companies
are Mukesh Ambani, Manoj Modi, Anand Jain and Bharat Goenka.

New Delhi: R. Ravi has been elected as the President
and H.M. Choraria as the Vice-President of the Institute
of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) on Wednesday.
Ravi succeeds Mahesh Anant Athavale as the President of
the ICSI. Ravi and Choraria have been re-elected as Central
Council members of the ICSI for the second successive
term.
