Markets: Lack of direction keeps market on a wobble
Mumbai: The BSE Sensex went through alternative bouts of buying and selling before closing at 6544.77. The S&P CNX Nifty was volatile as well before closing flat at 2055.15.Balaji Distilleries hit the upper circuit filter at Rs11.35 for the second day in a row gaining 19.98 per cent over yesterday's close.

Shares of engineering companies such as Siemens, Thermax, and Crompton Greaves continued on their upward trend. The stock of engineering major ABB rose sharply as well. Buying interest was evident in the shares of Punjab National Bank and Centurion Bank with the latter rising sharply by 7.25 per cent to end at Rs18.50. The stock of UTI Bank hit a 52-week high of Rs 232.45.

Shares of key tyre companies Apollo Tyres, Goodyear and J.K. Industries rose sharply. The stock of Ceat rose sharply for the second day as well.

Jet IPO to open on Feb.18
New Delhi: The country's first aviation sector initial public offering (IPO) will be priced between Rs950-Rs1125 and will open on February 18 and close on February 24.

Jet plans to raise about Rs1,500 crore through 17.2 million shares.

Special dividend from Bayer Abs
New Delhi: Bayer Abs Limited has announced a special dividend of 80 per cent. The Board of Directors of the company at their meeting approved a special dividend of Rs8 per equity share each of Rs10.

It will be paid to the shareholders whose name appears on the register of members as on February 18, the record date, the company informed the National Stock Exchange.

It also said its corporate name 'Bayer' would be withdrawn following its spin off from Bayer AG into a separate entity in the name of 'Lanxess'.

IDBI sells stake in Nagarjuna Fertiliser
Hyderabad: Nagarjuna Fertilisers & Chemicals Ltd (NFCL) has informed the stock exchanges that the Industrial Development Bank of India Ltd (IDBI), which is holding more than five per cent of the shares and voting rights in the company, has sold 84,32,889 equity shares of the company, amounting to 2.02 per cent of the paid-up capital during January 2 to 24.

Twenty percent interim from Suprajit Engineering
Bangalore: Automotive component manufacturer Suprajit Engineering Ltd has declared an interim dividend of 20 per cent for 2004-05.

The company has reported a net profit of Rs3.4 crore during the third quarter of 2004, up 21.51 per cent over the corresponding previous period. The revenues grew 48.33 per cent at Rs33.35 crore (Rs22.48 crore).

For the nine-month period ended December 2004, Suprajit, which manufactures cables and speedometers for the automotive sector, posted a net profit of Rs7.14 crore and revenues of Rs78.2 crore.

Gammon converts SPVs into subsidiaries
Hyderabad: Gammon India Ltd has informed the stock exchanges that Andhra Expressway Ltd and Rajahmundry Expressway Ltd, the special purpose vehicle (SPV) companies promoted by it in joint venture with Punj Lloyd Ltd, have now become subsidiaries of the company.

Both had promoted Andhra Expressway for the implementation of Dharmavaram-Tuni road project on BOT basis estimated at an outlay of Rs212-crore, and Rajahmundry Expressway for the implementation of Rajahmundry-Dharmavaram road project estimated at Rs219 crore in Andhra Pradesh.

Gammon India has informed the stock exchanges that the company along with its wholly owned subsidiary, Gammon Infrastructure Projects Ltd, has acquired certain holding in the said SPVs from Punj Lloyd. Consequently, Andhra Expressway and Rajahmundry Expressway have become its subsidiaries with effect from February 7, it said.
