Markets: Modest
volumes result in flat ending
Mumbai: A day after closing at an all-time high of 6,679, markets lost
momentum with the Sensex closing at 6,670, down marginally by nine points.
In the broader markets, Nifty too ended weak at 2,089. The volumes on the
bourses were modest.

Reliance
MF launches Equity Opportunities Fund
Mumbai: The Reliance Mutual Fund has launched
an open-ended diversified equity scheme, the Equity
Opportunities Fund, according to a company press release.
This scheme's investment objective is to provide long-term
capital appreciation by investing in stocks across sectors
and industries of all market capitalisations.
The initial public offer of the issue remains open till
March 7. There will be no entry load during the initial
public offer.
The scheme will invest up to 75-100 per cent in equity
and equity-related instruments and up to 25 per cent
in debt securities and money market instruments with
an aim to generate regular income, the release said.
The minimum application amount is Rs5,000.

LIC
likely to hike exposure to
equities
New Delhi: The Life Insurance Corporation (LIC)
is considering raising its investments in equities to
10 per cent of its investible funds from the existing
eight per cent.
LIC at present has investible funds of about Rs3,70,000
crore. On the forthcoming public issues, the corporation
said that it would be actively investing in the offers
of banks, public sector companies and private companies.
LIC has said that it hopes to garner over Rs14,000 crore
in new premium income during the current financial year.
It said that it has been growing at around 35 per cent
till now, and expects new premium income from individual
policies to be over Rs11,000 crore in the current fiscal.
In the group insurance business the corporation has
registered a growth of 67 per cent and 127 per cent
over the past two years.
On LIC's reducing market share, the corporation said
that it's market share fell to 78.43 per cent till December
2004 from 88.21 per cent in 2003.
