Markets: Institutional buying props indices at an all time high
Mumbai: On the back of a broad rally the stock market indices touched all time highs with the benchmark Sensex gaining 97 points or 1.4 per cent, closing at an all-time high at 6,784. In the broader markets, the 50-share NSE Nifty was up 35 points or 1.7 per cent to end at 2,128. The midcaps moved up with the CNX Midcap 200 index gaining 41 points or 1.4 per cent at 2,847. The Bankex BSE gained 1.1 per cent to 4,002.

The rally is being attributed to strong institutional buying by both domestic and foreign players.

Index heavyweights led the charge on the Sensex with oil exploration giant ONGC up Rs31.7 or 3.7 per cent to close at Rs888. Reliance Industries moved up by Rs10 or 1.8 per cent to close at Rs559. FMCG giant Hindustan Lever gained Rs4.7 or 3.2 per cent to close at Rs151. Auto stocks too revved up with Bajaj Auto up almost Rs39 or 3.7 per cent to close at Rs1,083. Hero Honda was up Rs9.7 or 1.7 per cent at Rs560. Tata Motors was up Rs12 or 2.6 per cent at almost Rs475. Maruti was up Rs9 or 2 per cent at Rs471.50.

SBI was up 1.4 per cent to close at Rs716. ICICI Bank, which touched a new 52-week high, was up Rs7 or 1.8 per cent to Rs396.55. Steel stocks too were in the limelight with Ispat, Essar Steel, Jindal Steel, Sail and Tata Steel all going up. Cement pivotals moved up as well.

25 per cent dividend for Canbank's Tax Saver scheme
Mangalore: The Canbank Mutual Fund has declared a dividend of 25 per cent for its Canequity Tax Saver scheme.

A press release by Canbank Mutual Fund said that the income distribution is tax free in the hands of the investors. It added that March 18 has been fixed as the record date for income distribution. The NAV of the scheme is Rs16.84 as on March 1.

After the payout of income distribution, the NAV will fall to the extent of the payout, the release added.

PNB announces price band for public offer
New Delhi: The Punjab National Bank has announced a price band of Rs350-390 per share for its second public offer. The issue is slated to open on March 7.

At the lower end of the price band, the bank is expected to raise Rs2,800 crore, bank officials said in a statement. At the upper end, the bank is set to collect Rs3,120 crore.

After the issue of eight crore shares with this public offer, Government's holding in the bank would come down to 57 per cent from its current 80 per cent.

The issue would improve the bank's capital base allowing it to meet the Basel II norms and increased business requirements. The minimum application will be for 15 shares and its multiples thereof.

Of the shares on offer, PNB has reserved 10 per cent or 80 lakh shares for the existing small shareholders and an equivalent proportion for employees. The remaining 6.4 crore shares would be offered to public.

A minimum 35 per cent of the net offering has been reserved for retail individual investors who can bid for equity shares up to Rs1 lakh in value. 50 per cent of the net offering will be reserved for qualified institutional buyers whereas minimum 15 per cent has been reserved for non-institutional bidder.
