Wolfowitz confirmed as World Bank chief
Washington: The World Banks' board has appointed US
Deputy Defence Secretary Paul Wolfowitz as the tenth president
of the 184-nation development bank.
Wolfowitz,
whose nomination was unanimously approved by the board,
will take over as the Bank's president when James Wolfensohn's
ends his tenure in a few weeks.
By
agreement between the US and the Europeans at the end
of World War II, the World Bank President is always an
American chosen by the US President and the IMF Managing
Director a European.
The
US is the largest shareholder in both the Bank and IMF.
In
response to the Board's decision appointing him, Wolfowitz
said in a statement: "It is humbling to be entrusted
with the leadership of this critically important international
institution."

Navaneethan
to be part-time Chairman of Dhanalakshmi Bank
Chennai: A.D. Navaneethan, Director, Dhanalakshmi
Bank, has been appointed as part-time Chairman of the
Bank. He will hold charge for a period of 3 years effective
from March 30.
Navaneethan
served as the Chairman of Karur Vysya Bank for nearly
nine years. He had also worked with the Syndicate Bank
and Reserve Bank of India earlier.

that Garrick D'Silva has resigned from the directorship
of the Company with immediate effect and thus he ceases
to be Chairman of the Company as well.

has resigned as Director from the Board of the Company
w.e.f. April 01, 2005.
Consequent
to this Ramprasad ceases to be Whole Time Director of
