Manchanda
takes over as ITDC Chief
New Delhi: M S Manchanda, a hotel industry veteran,
has assumed charge of the post of Chairman and Managing
Director of the state-owned India Tourism Development
Corporation (ITDC).
Fifty-five-year-old
Manchanda, an ITDC Vice-President in charge of hotels,
took over from senior IAS officer Rajeev Talwar, who will
continue to be Additional Director-General of Tourism
in the Central Government.
Joining
ITDC as a management trainee in 1971, Manchanda has held
several positions in ITDC and risen through the ranks.
A graduate from Delhi University, he holds a specialised
degreee in Hotel Management and Tourism from Klesheim,
Salsburg, Austria.

SAIL
director Roongta goes on leave
New Delhi: The Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL)
Director (Commercial), S.K. Roongta, has proceeded on
a month's leave following preliminary enquiries by the
Ministry of Steel regarding SAIL's purchases of coal.
A number of purchase transactions between April to August
2004 in the US spot market were being looked into by the
Steel Ministry.
It has been alleged that though coal was available at
a much lower price, the public sector steel manufacturer
had actually made purchases at a price that was more than
100 per cent higher.

Vinod
Dasari takes over as COO at Ashok Leyland
Chennai: Vinod K. Dasari has joined Ashok Leyland
Ltd as its Chief Operating Officer, and will head the
company's manufacturing, strategic sourcing and corporate
quality engineering divisions, according to an Ashok Leyland
press release.
S. Nagarajan, at present Executive Director - Manufacturing,
will take charge as Executive Director - Projects.
A postgraduate in Engineering Management from the McCormick
School of Engineering and an MBA from the Kellogg School
of Management, 39-year-old Dasari was till recently Joint
Managing Director of Cummins India Ltd.
Dasari commenced his career with the General Electric
Company in 1986 and joined Timken USA as Senior Business
Analyst - Manufacturing and Strategy, after completing
his MBA in 1992.
He then moved to Timken's Indian operations as Director
of Manufacturing and Technology. In 1998, he was appointed
Managing Director of Timken India. He served as the President
of the Global Railroad business of Timken USA for two
years, before joining Cummins in 2002.
