Manwani
steps into Banga's shoes at HLL
Mumbai: Unilever President (Asia & Africa) Harish Manwani will
succeed M S Banga as the non-executive Chairman of Hindustan Lever Limited
(HLL). "It
is the intention of the Board to elect Harish Manwani as the Non-Executive
Chairman of the Company in succession to M S Banga from the conclusion of
the Annual General Meeting on June 24, 2005," HLL has informed the Bombay
Stock Exchange. The
Board of Directors, at its meeting on April 29, decided to co-opt Manwani
as an additional Director on the Board while Banga has stated that he will
not seek re-election as non-executive Director at the AGM. "Consequent
to him becoming President (Foods) of Unilever, M S Banga has advised the Board
that he will not seek re-election as a non-executive Director at the AGM of
the company scheduled for June 24, 2005," it said.

Gupta takes over as Chairman at PNB
New Delhi:
S C Gupta has taken over as Chairman of the Punjab National Bank, with the
state-owned bank's chief S S Kohli retiring on Saturday. Gupta, 58, had earlier
served as chairman of Chennai-based Indian Overseas Bank. He
started his career with the SBI in 1966 and later joined the Syndicate Bank.
Then he moved to OBC and became its executive director in 1999. In December
1999, Gupta was appointed chairman of IOB. PNB
is now the third largest bank in the country with a business of over Rs1,67,000
crore.

Sastry is BEL Director
Bangalore: V.V.R. Sastry is the new Director (Commercial & Management
Services) of Bharat Electronics Ltd, taking over from S.C. Khanna, who retired
on April 30. A
Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics & Communication, Sastry joined
Bharat Electronics in 1969 as Assistant Engineer. During his 36-year stint,
he has worked in areas such as development and engineering, production engineering,
project management, technology management, commercial management and marketing.
He
was General Manager of the Military Communication & Electronic Warfare
Strategic Business Unit in the Bangalore complex of BEL till he became Director
in 2002. He
also headed BEL's New York office for three years.
Sastry is a senior assessor for the CII-EXIM Bank business excellence model.
