Sunil
Alagh and C.Y. Pal join UB board as independent directors
Bangalore: United Breweries (UB) Ltd, jointly owned
by the UB Group Chairman, Vijay Mallya, and UK brewer
Scottish & Newcastle, has recast its board of directors,
inducting Sunil Alagh, former top honcho of Britannia
Industries, and C.Y. Pal, former Chairman of Cadbury India
Ltd, as independent directors in the process.
The new-look nine-member board now consists of three representations
each from UB and S&N and three independent directors.
Besides Mallya, other UB nominees are Ravi Nedungadi,
CFO of the UB Group, and Kalyan Ganguly, who is the Chief
Executive of the company. The S&N directors are John
Hunt, John Dunsmore and Ms Lesley Jackson, who is also
the CFO of the company.
Apart from Alagh and Pal, the third independent director
is C.L. Jain.
Following the recent equity deal, Mallya and the foreign
partner own 35 per cent each in the largest domestic brewer
that accounts for 50 per cent of the beer consumption
in the country.

Uday
S. Roy is new CGM of SBI, Bengal Circle
Kolkata: Uday Sankar Roy has taken over as the Chief
General Manager of State Bank of India, Bengal Circle
covering West Bengal, Sikkim and Andaman & Nicobar
Islands. He succeeds K.C. Raut who has retired.
Prior to this, Roy was Chief General Manager (Information
Technology) at the bank's corporate centre in Mumbai,
according to a press release issued by the bank.
