Dutch voters reject EU constitution
Amsterdam:
Dutch voters have followed the lead set by the French people, rejecting the proposed EU constitution by a massive margin. The set back may now force the European leaders to scrap the proposed constitution altogether.

The Netherlands vote comes just three days after a similar vote in France.

Many Dutch are unhappy with the economy, even more so as the Dutch are the biggest contributors per head to the bloc's multi billion budget. The vote also expresses fears of getting swamped by the swift enlargement of the EU and the possible inclusion of Turkey.

61.6 per cent of voters said "No" to the charter while 38.4 per cent approved and significantly, over 60 per cent of the electorate voted.
Though the result is not binding, the EU states, with this double negative feed back from the French and the Dutch people, would by now have drawn the appropriate conclusions.
