IC inventor Jack Kilby dies
San Francisco:
Jack Kilby, who invented the integrated circuit, has died aged 81. Kilby was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 2000 for his achievement.

Kilby designed the first IC over the summer of 1958 at Texas Instruments. Kilby also succeeded in integrating electronic components, including the still-new transistor, onto a single piece of silicon, which made possible low-cost high volume manufacturing of electronic circuits.

The first IC measured 7/16 by 1/16 inches (11.1 mm x 1.58mm).

Kilby also invented the first handheld electronic calculator in 1967, and the thermal printer.

Sanjeev Sethi joins Matrix Labs
Hyderabad:
Matrix Laboratories Ltd has announced that Sanjeev K. Sethi has joined the company as the Senior Vice-President (Pharmaceuticals & Technical Services).

Sethi was previously the Deputy Head of Global Research & Development at Sandoz, the generics arm of Novartis based in Vienna, Austria.

In a press release here on Tuesday, Matrix Labs said that Sethi had about 15 years of work experience with Ranbaxy in the areas of pharma research and international regulatory affairs. He is the principal author and team member for 10 US patents and five Patent Cooperation Treaty applications.

Matrix said Sethi's appointment emphasises the company's new thrust on the finished dosage forms business in its efforts to become an integrated player in the pharma industry.

Dr Daniel Rader joins Dr. Reddy's board
Hyderabad:
Dr Reddy's Laboratories Ltd has announced that Dr Daniel Rader from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia has joined the company's scientific and clinical advisory board.

In a press release here on Tuesday, the company said Dr Rader is a faculty in the Department of Medicine and the Director of Cardiovascular Metabolism unit at the Institute for Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism.

He is a global thought leader in the areas of dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease.

Mudra appoints Kalpana Bansal as LLC head
Mumbai:
Mudra has appointed Ms Kalpana Bansal as Executive Vice-President and Head of Leadership, Learning and Change (LLC).

LLC is Mudra's HR response to the need to identify, nurture and grow talent and was set up two years back when Madhukar Kamath took over the group's leadership.

On Ms Bansal's appointment, Kamath, Managing Director & CEO, said: "At Mudra we put our people first. It is great to have Kalpana on board as she is a critical addition to our senior management team. With our people focus, the LLC function is central to our plans in the future."
