China's
trade surplus may widen
Beijing: China may generate a trade surplus of more
than $70 billion this year, up from last year's $32 billion
according to an International Business Daily newspaper.
The
country's trade surplus with the US alone would reach
$100 billion this year, reported as in the five months
of the year the trade surplus with the US had already
reached $39 billion. With the EU, the 2005 trade surplus
would be $60 billion, compared with $26 billion in the
first five months the paper said.
China's
exports in January-May period increased by 33.2 per cent
from a year earlier to $276.4 billion, while imports rose
13.7 per cent to $246.4 billion, resulting in a trade
surplus of $30 billion, earlier government data showed.

GECIS
moves to open BPO centre in Romania
New
Delhi:
GECIS which is India's biggest BPO outfit, has announced
that it will locate its next business process outsourcing
centre at Bucharest, in Romania as part of its global
expansion strategy.
"The Romanian facility will handle a variety of complex
finance and accounting, supply chain management, IT, engineering
and customer services process for GE and other blue chip
clients across Europe.
GECIS
will move into 4,000 sq.m of modern office space in north
Bucharest's Iride business park in August, which has the
expansion capacity of 8,000sq-metres for 1,500 employees.
Initial employment will be about 170," the statement
added.
The
centre will cater only to European customers.

India
talks to US and Israel for R&D deals
New
Delhi: India is promoting collaborative industrial
research in five technology areas with Israel and is in
talks with the US for a comprehensive research agreement
covering sensitive areas like clinical trial protocols
and export of bio-resources.
The
agreement with the US is likely to be signed during the
Prime Minister's visit to that country later in the year.
