Atul Singh takes over as president of Coca-Cola India
New Delhi: Atul Singh, Coca-Cola's president for the east, central and south-China division, has been appointed president of the company's India division, replacing Sanjiv Gupta.

Sanjiv Gupta has announced his decision to quit.

Gupta used to head all of Coke's operations in India, including company-owned bottling, until a restructuring operation in the company saw the appointment of John Ustas, who was heading Coca-Cola's bottling operations in Norway, as the CEO of the company-owned bottlers in India.

Ustas reports directly to Steve Buffington, the regional director of Latin America and Asia for bottling investments, leaving Gupta looking after the concentrate business, franchise bottlers and marketing operations.

The company has said Singh's appointment will be effective September 1, 2005.

This will be his second stint in India. He was spearheading Coke's franchisee bottling operations in the country during 1999-2002.

Gupta joined Coca-Cola India in 1997 as vice-president, marketing.
