Mats Granryd appointed as MD, Ericsson India
New Delhi: Ericsson announced on Thursday the appointment of Mats Granryd as the head of its market unit for India and Sri Lanka and managing director of Ericsson India Pvt Ltd.

Mats Granryd replaces Jan Campbell who will now be responsible for the company's Central European operations.

"By bringing exceptional industry leadership, and experience in the telecom industry, Mr Mats Granryd will be leading Ericsson's efforts to provide mobile and broadband Internet communications to the growing Indian telecom market," said a press release.

As the overall head for the company's operations in India and Sri Lanka, Granryd will be responsible for supporting operators in the region. Granryd was the President of the Ericsson Mobile Systems - CDMA Business Unit in San Diego, USA.

Baldev Raj elected as president of the Indian Institute of Metals
Chennai: Dr Baldev Raj, Director of Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) and a distinguished scientist, has been elected the Honorary President of the Indian Institute of Metals.

Headquartered at Kolkata, Indian Institute of Metals is a premier professional body involved in activities relating to minerals, metallurgy and materials, and has over 8,000 members spread across 52 chapters in the country.

The steering team consists of B. Muthuraman, Managing Director, Tata Steel, Jamshedpur, Dr S. Banerjee, Director, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, L. Pugazhenthi, Managing Director, ILZDC, New Delhi and J.C. Marwah, Hon. Secretary, Managing Director, Edcons, Kolkata.

According to a press release, Dr Baldev Raj has outlined a comprehensive road map for the institute for 2005-06. It would play a pivotal role in human resource development and would initiate the extensive formation of student chapters under the supervision of respective local chapters.

The institute will also take initiatives to boost industry-academia-research institution interactions by conducting symposia on broad fronts of emerging materials technologies, materials processing and products. It will also be organising several refresher courses catering to the needs of various industries.

As part of India Vision 2020, the institute will participate in networking the expertise and resources available in the country.

CRSI medal for Dr.Ahmed Kamal
Hyderabad: Dr Ahmed Kamal, Deputy Director, Organic Chemistry Division at the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), here has been selected for the Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI) medal, for his contributions to Chemistry.

The medal would be presented at the symposium to be organised by the CRSI in Bangalore during the first week of February, according to an IICT release.

Bharti Tele reshuffles top management
New Delhi: Bharti Tele-Ventures has announced key organisational changes at the top management level.

Ashok Juneja, Director, Planning and Special Projects, Mobility, moves back into the corporate office as corporate director, Network Technology and Projects. He will be responsible for new network technology initiatives.

Hemant Sachdev, corporate director, marketing, will now take over as group chief marketing officer and director, Mobility.

Jagdish Kini, executive director, south regional hub, will now be taking a non-operational supervisory position based out of Bangalore. In his new assignment, as a consultant, Kini would be assisting the company in enhancing `Customer Service Delivery'.
Atul Bindal, chief marketing officer and director, mobility, will take over as executive director, south regional hub, mobility.

Sunil K. Goyal, senior vice-president, strategic planning group, will take over as chief operating officer, mobility, for the Madhya Pradesh circle from Madhur Taneja.

Taneja, COO, Madhya Pradesh, has decided to take on another assignment outside the company.
