S.
Hajara to take over as chairman at the Shipping Corporation
of India
Mumbai: S. Hajara, Director (Personnel), Shipping
Corporation of India (SCI), has been appointed as the
chairman of the company, ending months of uncertainty
on who will succeed P.K. Srivastava, whose term as chairman
expired today.
Hajara
is expected to assume charge on Thursday.
He joined the company as management trainee in 1973, after
passing out of IIM, Kolkata.

Eleven
scientists to get S.S. Bhatnagar award for 2005
New Delhi: Eleven scientists have been selected
for the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar prizes for
2005. The awards would be given away by Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh on September 28, 2005.
Among
the selected scientists are Dr Tapas K Kundu from Jawaharlal
Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore
and Dr Shekhar C Mande from Centre for DNA Fingerprinting
and Diagnostics, Hyderabad in the area of biological sciences,
Dr Nibir Mandal from Jadavpur University, Kolkata in Earth,
Atmosphere, Ocean and Planetary Sciences and Dr Sandip
P Trivedi from Tata Institute of Fundamental Research,
Mumbai in physical sciences.
In
the field of medical science, Dr Javed N Agrewala from
the Institute of Microbial Technology, Chandigarh has
been selected, in chemical sciences, Dr Samaresh Bhattacharya,
from Jadavpur University, Kolkata and Dr S Ramakrishnan
from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and in engineering
sciences Dr Kalyanmoy Deb from Indian Institute of Technology,
Mumbai have been selected.
A
release from the Council of Scientific and Industrial
Research said that Dr Probal Chaudhuri from Indian Statistical
Institute, Kolkata and Dr Kapil Hari Paranjpe from Institute
of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai would get the honour.

Bruce
Matchett appointed as JWT's creative chief
New
Delhi: Advertising agency, JWT, has chosen Bruce Matchett,
as its creative chief. He was the Chief Creative Officer
at Singleton Ogilvy & Mather, Australia and New Zealand.
In
a statement, Colvyn Harris, CEO, JWT India, "This
is the culmination of our global search to hire the best
Chief Creative Officer and National Executive Creative
Director. We have been most discerning. Bruce represents
our relentless pursuit to develop creative work to global
standards."
He
is credited with some of Australia's best-loved advertising
for brands such as Toohey's, Coke, Qantas, BMW, among
others. Prior to Ogilvy, Matchett was with Saatchi &
Saatchi, besides holding various positions in the UK and
New Zealand.
Harris
added, "He will provide the freshness and a new sensibility
to Indian advertising - something the industry really
needs. We want our clients to continue to be market leaders,
to lead in the standards they set, and we wish to partner
this. Mr Bruce Matchett and Mr Agnello Dias, Vice-President
and Executive Creative Director, JWT India, will form
the new team who will shoulder our client and brand responsibilities
with our existing creative team."
Commenting
on his appointment, Matchett said, "I am looking
forward to working for JWT in India. India as a market
is vastly different from any other country that I have
worked in. To me, India represents both a challenge and
an opportunity, and the excitement will be in decoding
the cultural diversity that exists in the Indian market."

Manoj
Adlakha joins Yes Bank
New Delhi: YES Bank on Wednesday announced the
appointment of Manoj Adlakha as Group Executive Vice-President
and Country Head, Retail Banking.
Adlakha
will join the bank on September 1 and will be based at
New Delhi.
Prior
to joining Yes Bank, Adlakha was Vice-President (Retail
Financial Services and Consumer Cards) at American Express,
which he joined in 1990.
