Ram Poddar elected chairman, ASCI
Mumbai: The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) at its board meeting, held on September 8, unanimously elected Ram Poddar, chairman, the Tobacco Institute of India, as chairman of the advertising body.
According to a press release, a member of the board of governor's, since November 1998, Poddar has provided active support to self-regulation in the advertising movement.

Besides being a vice-president, Indian Chamber of Commerce, he is on the governing bodies of the Indian Council of Arbitration and International Chamber of Commerce and is also a member of various committees of FICCI and CII.

Bharat Puri, managing director, Cadbury (India) Ltd, was elected vice-chairman, and Arun Adhikari, managing director, HPC, HLL, has been appointed the honorary treasurer.

The other members of the new Board of Governors are: Advertisers: Rajiv Dube (Tata Motors), Shantanu Khosla (P&G Hygiene and Health Care) Media: Bhaskar Das (Bennett Coleman & Co), Vikram Kaushik (Space TV), G. Krishnan (TV Today), N. Murali (Kasturi & Sons) Ad. Agencies: Sam Balsara (Madison), Madhukar Kamath (Mudra), Pranesh Misra (Lintas), Arvind Sharma (Leo Burnett). Allied Professions: Dilip Cherian (Perfect Relations), Dhananjay Keskar (ICFAI Business School), Partha Rakshit (AC Nielsen Research Services).

During the year 2004-05, the Consumer Complaints Council of the ASCI upheld 66 per cent of the 157 complaints received, and over 72 per cent of ASCI's rulings were complied with by the advertising industry.

The Council is represented on three Committees notified by three separate Ministries, through which it has been able to influence government's policies on advertising content.

Meenu Handa appointed president for Ogilvy PR, India
Chennai: Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide (Ogilvy PR) has appointed Ms Meenu Handa as National President of its India operations, according to a press release.

Ms Handa comes to Ogilvy PR from IPAN, where she worked for the past 15 years. She has worked extensively across various industry sectors for clients such as Hindustan Lever, the HCL Group, Allied Domecq, the Swatch group, Star TV, MTV and Boeing, and various industry associations.
