fiscal deficit up Rs.83,843 crore
New Delhi: The fiscal deficit, the net difference
between expenditure and income, during the first half
of the current fiscal 2005-06 shot up to Rs83,843 crore
from Rs53,253 crore during the same period, last fiscal.
Similarly,
the revenue deficit during April-September this year went
up to Rs65,097 crore as against Rs59,235 crore during
the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year,
data compiled by the Controller General of Accounts (CGA)
show. In percentage terms the fiscal deficit during the
first six months of the current fiscal works out to 2.38
per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) while revenue
deficit amounted to 1.8 per cent of the GDP.
The
2005-06 Budget has set a fiscal deficit target of 4.3
per cent of the gross domestic product and revenue deficit
of 2.7 per cent.
In
real terms, according to the data provided, the fiscal
deficit during April-September, this year, works out to
55.5 per cent of the budgeted Rs1,51,144 crores during
2005-06.
As
per the CGA data, the Centre's total receipts stood at
Rs1,27,140 crore during the first half of the current
fiscal reflecting 35 per cent of the budgeted Rs3,83,200
crore for the entire 2005-06 financial year. Revenue receipts
at Rs1,22,843 crore during April-September this year accounted
for 35 per cent of the budgeted Rs3,51,200 crore.
The
central government's expenditure during the first half
of the current fiscal stood at Rs2,10,983 crore reflecting
41 per cent of the estimated Rs5,14,344 crore for the
entire financial year 2005-06.
Further,
nearly 71.84 per cent of the total expenditure was accounted
for, by non-plan outlay at Rs1,51,577 crore during the
first half of the current fiscal, the Comptroller General
of Accounts data has pointed out.
The
share of the non-plan expenditure in total outlay stood
at 72.76 per cent during the corresponding period of the
previous fiscal year, according to the Comproller General
of Accounts data.
