Shome is Citigroup's corporate banking head for India
New Delhi:
Citigroup on Monday announced the appointments of Surojit Shome as corporate banking head, India and the sub-continent, and Sanjiv Vohra as Citigroup country officer and corporate and investment bank head, the Philippines, with effect from November 1.

Shome's appointment incorporates his current financial institutions portfolio. He will take over from Vohra, said a release.

In addition to his role as head of corporate and investment banking business, Vohra will have the oversight for Citigroup franchise in the Philippines in his capacity as Citigroup country officer.

Rakesh Jhunjhunwala is Aptech chairman
Mumbai:
Computer training company Aptech Ltd now has prominent equity investor, Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, as Chairman on its newly constituted board of directors.

The new board consists of several known names in financial investment as well as from the corporate world. This follows the recent change of promoters at Aptech. The executive team continues to be led by Pramod Khera, CEO and managing director, Aptech Ltd, said a news release from the company.

The other members on the board are: Asit Koticha, managing director at institutional brokerage and corporate finance firm Ask Raymond James; Raman Damani, managing director of Ramesh Damani Finance Ltd and Ashish Pant, MD, Farrallon Capital.

DMK chief's wife relinquishes stake in Sun Network
Chennai:
DMK chief, M. Karunanidhi, announced at a press conference that his wife had "relinquished" her 20 per cent stake in Sun Network. "She has very amicably relinquished her shares and received the proceeds," Karunanidhi said.

He said that she had "divided the proceeds and given me" Rs10 crore. After making provisions for income tax, he had set up the `Kalaignar Karunanidhi Charitable Trust' with a corpus of Rs5 crore.

Karunanidhi, who preferred not to answer any questions on the stake-sale, said that the Trust would receive an interest income of Rs 2.5 lakh, which would be "spent towards the development of Tamil language and financial assistance for medical treatment, marriages and educational pursuits to the poor and weaker sections."

Sun Network has thirteen TV channels, four FM radio stations, two daily newspapers and four magazines in several Indian languages. It claims to have on offer 50,000 hours of original content a year.

Sun Network is majority-owned by the family members of Karunanidhi's nephew, the late Murasoli Maran.
