Delhi
Government arranges for additional power in winter
New
Delhi: The Union Power Ministry has decided that Delhi
would get an additional 100 MW power from the un-allocated
pool of the Central Sector Power available with the ministry
in the ongoing winter season.
The
Ministry has also decided that Delhi may requisition up
to 250 MW additional power from NTPC gas-based stations.
While
the demand for the first fortnight of December has been
pegged at 2900 MW-3000 MW, authorities have made arrangements
to meet the demand during peak hours, according to official
release from the government.
The electricity demand during the second fortnight of
December is expected to be between 3100 MW and 3300 MW,
it said adding the that Delhi has arranged for 200 MW
power through bilateral arrangements against 500 MW last
year.

Power
scarcity to hurt industrialised states
New
Delhi: Gujarat and Maharashtra, already affected by
power scarcity, may face more problems during winter,
according to an Assocham Eco-Pulse study. The worst affected
is likely to be Uttar Pradesh, India's most populous state,
with a deficit of 21.3 per cent amounting to 6,901 MU
of supply shortage the study.
Maharashtra,
the most industrialised state and backbone of the country,
was hit by a 14 per cent deficit and could only get a
supply of 47,999 MU as against a requirement of 55,901
MU during April-October, the study said.
Gujarat
faces a power deficit of 9.1 per cent, which is likely
to affect several industries.
Bihar
faces a power deficit of 11.8 per cent, Jammu and Kashmir
(11per cent), Madhya Pradesh (10 per cent), Meghalaya
(16 per cent), Punjab (8.9 per cent) and Tripura (10.2
per cent), the study said.
The
country's industrial region, the western region, faces
a 10.9 per cent deficit, as against a demand of 1,18,101
MU, the availability is only 1,05,173 MU.
The
Northern region too suffered a 10.1 per cent deficit with
Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana and Punjab facing a shortage
of 11, 8 and 8.9 per cent respectively.

Lalu
says railways needs more funds
New Delhi: The union minister of railways, Lalu
Prasad Yadav, says there is a need to allocate more funds
for national railway projects in Jammu and Kashmir and
North Eastern region, and mega bridge projects.
The
minister projected a requirement of Rs4,092 crore for
key railway projects in the North East and Jammu and Kashmir,
as well as mega bridge projects, an official release said
here.
For
the Udhampur-Kashmir project, Yadav says that an accelerated
allotment of funds would be necessary.

Uttaranchal
focuses on gas projects
Dehra Dun: With hydel projects like Tehri running
into controversies from the environmental point of view,
the Uttaranchal government is actively mulling the idea
of alternate source of energy in gas.
The
government has roped in the Gas Authority of India Limited
(GAIL) to jointly examine various project opportunities
for natural gas in the state and undertake extension of
the National Gas Grid to Uttaranchal.
The
State Industrial Development Corporation of Uttaranchal
(SIDCUL), a government enterprise, recently signed a Memorandum
of Understanding (MoU) with Gail recently with this purpose
in mind.
The gas cooperation agreement will initiate a joint exercise
for assessment of the demand of natural gas and allied
products in Uttaranchal.
It
will also promote usage of gas like compressed natural
gas (CNG) and regasified liquefied natural gas (LNG) and
piped natural gas (PNG) in the state.
Gail's
existing HBJ pipeline networks in the neighbouring state
of Uttar Pradesh will have the nearest tapping point at
Bareilly from where clean fuel like natural gas could
be made available in Uttaranchal via two points.
