LPG shortage overcome: Mani Aiyar
New Delhi:
The LPG shortage in the country is finally over and normal supplies are being restored, the government assured the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

Petroleum and Natural Gas minister Mani Shankar Aiyar pointed out that restrictions on providing new connections were being lifted from the beginning of this month. According to him, the shortfall is now less than 1.5 per cent.

The minister said that state governments had been asked to curb malpractices in both LPG and kerosene, and had also been urged to initiate strict action against the culprits under the Essential Commodities Act. Similarly, oil-marketing companies have been told to stick to marketing guidelines.

Aiyar attributed the shortage of LPG to the fire in Bombay High, and to the closure of refineries in the US following hurricanes.
