Aryabhatta
award to Prof Narasimha
Bangalore:
Prof R Narasimha, member, Space Commission and chairman,
Engineering Mechanical Unit, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for
Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bangalore has been
selected for the Aryabhatta award 2004, instituted by
the Astronautical Society of India (ASI).
Others
selected for the ASI awards are: Dr Panner Selvam, DRDL
Hyderabad for rocket related technology, Prof K P Singh,
Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai for space
sciences and applications, K R S Murthy, Antrix Corporation,
Bangalore and Dr Surendra Pal, ISRO Satellite Centre for
space systems management, an ASI release said.
Prof
A V Patki, Satyam Computer Services Ltd, Hyderbad has
been selected for his contribution to spacecraft and related
technology.
Those that have been selected for the ISRO-ASI awards
2004 (sponsored by ISRO) are: G K Kuruvilla, Liquid Propulsion
Systems Centre, Thiruvananthapuram for rocket and related
technologies, J S Parihar, Space Applications Centre,
Ahmedabad for space sciences and applications, Dr D N
Moorthi, ISRO, for space systems management and M N Sathyanarayanan,
executive director, Space Industries Development (retd)
for spacecraft and related technology.
While Geetha Varadan, ISRO, has been selected for the
Women Scientist award 2004, Yogesh Prasad, ISRO Satellite
Centre has been selected for the Young Scientist Award,
the release said.
G Viswanathan and his team from ISRO Radar Development
Centre have been selected for the Team Achievement award.
The Aryabhatta award carried a citation and Rs1 lakh in
cash while each of ASI awards and Women Scientist Award
carried a citation and Rs25,000 in cash, the ASI release
said. The Team Achievement Award carried a citation and
Rs1 lakh in cash while the Young Scientist Award carried
a citation and Rs10,000 in cash.
The awards will be presented at a function here shortly,
the release added.

Oracle
president joins i-flex board
Mumbai:
Oracle Corporation has completed the acquisition
of the Citigroup stake in i-flex, holding 43 per cent
in the company, and its president, Charles Phillips, has
joined the i-flex board of directors.
For the current quarter, Rajesh Hukku, chairman and managing
director, said: "The product license fees signings
were the highest in any quarter and have increased 57-per
cent on a nine-month basis."
R. Ravisankar, CEO, international operations and business
development, said: "Our differentiated business model
built on customer focus, vertical specialisation, domain
expertise, and global execution continues to deliver results.
We are excited at the market opportunity in financial
services, and with the strengthened relationship with
Oracle, we are now even better positioned to capture a
leadership position in this space."
i-flex posted a net income of Rs48.2 crore in the quarter
ended December 31, 2005, representing a 6-per cent growth
year-on-year, and a 26-per cent increase quarter-on-quarter.
Revenues for the quarter grew 29 per cent at Rs388 crore,
as against Rs300 crore in the corresponding previous quarter.
Quarter-on-quarter, revenues registered 11-per cent growth.
