Nripendra
Misra on short-list for TRAI chief post
New Delhi: The former Secretary of the Department
of Telecom (DoT), Nripendra Misra, would appear to be
a frontrunner for the post of the chairman of the Telecom
Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
The
existing TRAI board, including its high profile Chairman,
Pradip Baijal, ends its term in March-April this year.
According
to government sources, a final decision will be taken
once the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet completes
the entire process.
Misra,
a 1967 IAS officer, had worked in close quarters with
the Communications and IT Minister, Dayanidhi Maran, as
DoT Secretary and had assisted in formulating some key
policy decisions including the Broadband Policy.
While
Baijal's tenure ends on March 21, the term of two members
Dr Seth and P.K. Sarma is scheduled to end
in April. Dr Seth, who was earlier the chairman of Bharat
Sanchar Nigam Ltd and Member, Telecom Commission, is expected
to take up an assignment with the International Telecommunication
Union (ITU), the international body promoted by the UN
for setting standards and policy guidelines in the area
of communications.

RPG
Retail VP Radhakrishnan quits - will head Dimexon venture
Chennai: K. Radhakrishnan, vice-president (merchandising),
RPG Retail has confirmed that he has quit the group after
a seven-year stint. Radhakrishnan has said that he would
be spearheading the retail business of diamond trading
company Dimexon.
The
diamonds and jewellery conglomerate, which also owns the
well-known jewellery chain Kirtilals, is a sight-holder
for Diamond Trading Company (DTC) and only one of three
in the country.
The
London-based DTC is the sales and marketing arm of the
De Beers Group and sells its rough diamonds exclusively
through its sight-holders who are "suppliers of choice."
The sight holders in turn channel diamonds to the retail
trade.
Dimexon
at present has three stores retailing jewellery in the
country under the Kirtilals brand and plans to expand
its presence in India as well as abroad.
Radhakrishnan,
prior to his stint with RPG Retail, was with Amalgam Foods
and earlier with Hindustan Lever.
