Singapore: Oil prices almost touched $59 on Friday,
stemming a two-week slide.
US
March crude oil futures rose 43 cents to $58.89 a barrel
by 0220 GMT, after gaining 81 cents on Thursday. London
April Brent crude climbed 46 cents to $59.25.
US
prices have still lost more than 13 per cent this month.

US
retail sales rise 2.3 per cent in Jan
Washington: US retails rose 2.3 per cent in January
and economists were forced to revised the country's growth
forecasts erasing concerns about a looming slowdown in
the economy. The end period of 2005 on the other hand
saw the slowest quarterly expansion in three years.
Analysts
had earlier expected a 0.8 per cent rise in retail sales
and the surge prompted them to raise expectations for
Q1 GDP growth to a 4 per cent per annum while some even
forecast that GDP growth rate could hit 5 per cent or
even 6 per cent in the first three months of '06.
