NBC
to buy iVillage
New York: NBC Universal plans to acquire the women's
and parenting website, iVillage, for about $600 million.
NBC will purchase shares in the listed iVillage for $8.50
a share, up a little more than 50 cents a share from its
$7.98 a share close on the Nasdaq on Friday. The deal
has to be approved by shareholders and regulators although
it's likely to close in the second quarter.
iVillage launched in 1995 reported a revenue rise of 30
per cent rise in 2005 over 2004 and expected to increase
revenues about $200 million in 2006 with a 20 per cent
future growth rate.
When the deal closes, iVillage would report to Beth Comstock,
NBC Universal's president of digital media and marketing
development.

Street earns $23.8 billion in fees for mergers and acquisitions
Wall Street firms had an income of $23.8 billion in fees
from advising on mergers and acquisitions in 2005 and
this year looks even better.
Sources said 2006 could be the best year for M&As
as many companies are hunting for big acquisitions.
