president on three day India visit from Mar. 9
Hyderabad: Ahead of the Asian Development Bank's (ADB)
39th annual meeting being held in Hyderabad India, ADB's
president Haruhiko Kuroda will be visiting India this
week to review preparations.
The four-day annual meeting of the ADB's board of governors
will be held from May 3 at the new Hyderabad International
Convention Centre. The event is expected to attract 2,000-3,000
government leaders, representatives of civil society groups
and the private sector and journalists from across the
world.
During
his three-day official visit from March 9, Kuroda will
visit the convention centre and meet senior officials
both in Hyderabad and New Delhi. Kuroda will also
speak at the Administrative Staff College of India In
Hyderabad, and will host a press conference and speak
at the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry
meeting in New Delhi.
Among
the issues expected to figure prominently at this year's
annual meeting are ADB's medium-term strategy, global
imbalances affecting Asia, India and South Asia's role
in a region that is rapidly integrating and the country's
massive infrastructure needs.
Established in 1966, ADB has 64 members and last year
approved loans and grants for projects totaling $6.95
billion, and technical assistance amounting to $198.8
million. India, a founder- member of the bank, is the
bank's fourth biggest shareholder after Japan, the United
States, and the People's Republic of China.
