Mangalam Birla to chair Century Textiles meetings
Mumbai: From this year July onwards the next
generation of Birlas will dominate the proceedings at
Century Textiles & Industries annual general meeting
(AGM).
Kumar
Mangalam Birla, 38, was inducted on the board of Century
Textiles as an additional director on February 7, and
is expected to chair the AGM of the Rs 2,500 crore company.
Over
the past two decades Century Textiles' meetings have been
chaired by Sudarshan Kumar (SK) Birla, who recently stepped
down from the board along with Chandra Kant (CK) Birla.

Lehman
Bros top management sees exodus
Bangalore: Five executives of the senior management
team of New York-based financial services firm Lehman
Brothers' Mumbai office have quit at a critical time when
the firm has been looking at strengthening Indian operations.
These include senior vice-president and chief administrative
officer Sujit Baksi, who is leaving to join Tech Mahindra
as president corporate affairs. Others who have left include
Ravita Walia, head of back office; Rama Subramaniyam,
head of fixed income research; Sanjay Sharma, head of
security; and Shefali Suri, head of HR.
Walia is heading for Intelenet Global Services while Subramanyam
is joining ING Vysa as its vice-president (research),
Sharma is moving over to Deutsche Bank and Suri is slated
to join Kellogs India.

Ashok
K Sapra appointed as MD, India operations, at Telecordia
New Delhi: Global provider of telecommunications
network software and services, Telcordia has appointed
Ashok K Sapra as managing director of its India operations.
Sapra
would be responsible for the ongoing operations of Telcordia's
Indian entities and also manage the sales and marketing
initiatives, development of strategic offers and bringing
both solutions and services to Telcordia's customers.
Sapra has worked with AT&T, Sprint, GE Capital, RPG
Telecom and SaskTel Canada earlier.

Salem
Steel gets new ED
Coimbatore: P.M. Balasubramanian (58) has become
the new executive director of public sector company Salem
Steel Plant. He was earlier the general manager (operations
in-charge) at the company. He will assume charge as the
ED effective from April 1, 2006.
A mechanical engineering graduate from Regional Engineering
College, Warangal, Balasubramanian joined the SAIL's Bokaro
steel plant in 1972 before he moved over to Salem Steel
Plant in 1978. He has worked in various sections of the
cold-rolling mill operations in various positions, including
that of general manager (works). An awardee of the SAIL's
prestigious Jawahar award for `distinguished executive',
he has been trained in cryogenic technology at Linde,
Germany, and in stainless steel processing at the works
of Ugine, France, an SSP release said.
