BASF
continues with its $4.9-bn offer for Engelhard
Berlin:
BASF, the German chemicals company, is continuing
with its $4.9bn takeover offer for US speciality chemicals
company Engelhard but has not yet decided whether it will
revise its bid. Engelhard has been resisting the hostile
$37 per share offer from BASF, which the Ludwigshafen-based
company made in January.
BASF's
tender offer, scheduled to expire on Friday, now has been
extended until April 28, the company said. This is the
fourth time the offer has been prolonged. As of Friday,
654,180 Engelhard shares had been tendered, BASF added.

Microsoft
& Lenovo sign agreement to pre-install Windows
Washington: Lenovo and Microsoft have signed an
agreement to pre-install the Windows operating system
on Lenovo's computers made in China. The agreement is
expected to result in $1.2bn in sales of Microsoft's Windows
operating system software over the next 12 months.
The
formal signing of the November agreement comes a day before
Chinese President Hu Jintao comes to Seattle and tours
the software giant's headquarters and has dinner at the
Gates' residence.
Three
other Chinese PC manufacturers have announced plans to
buy a total of over $400 million worth of Windows operating
system software. The agreements follow a Chinese government
decree that requires all PCs made in China to have licensed
operating software installed before leaving the factory
as part of the government's efforts to crack down on piracy.
