Sun
Microsystems names Jonathan Schwartz as new chief executive
Sun Microsystems has named Jonathan Schwartz
as its first new chief executive in 22 years. Scott McNealy
the outgoing head of the company and Schwartz said Sun's
strategy will remain the same even after the former steps
down.
Sun's
stock has been stagnating for years as the company has
struggled with inconsistent profitability and revenue
growth. However Schwartz has promised to change that.
Company
officials said this is because Jonathan is more likely
to cut costs in a way that Sun needs. Analysts said the
company needs to cut selling administrative and general
costs.
Schwartz
says he will diminish the investments that don't make
sense anymore though there may not be a major layoff.
He says he preferred to direct attention not toward cost
cuts but rather to revenue growth as a way to profitability.
"We are going to be just as focused on that latter
part of the equation as we are on the former," Schwartz
said.

Microsoft
launches new browser
London:
Microsoft is planning to release the final version
of Internet Explorer 7 in the second half of this year
before the release of Windows Vista. The latest IE7 beta
version is touted as an improved version in how it deals
with certain banking and news Web sites.
Microsoft
chairman Bill Gates' team of developers is looking for
feedback on the new browser from ordinary computer users,
as well as other Web developers. The team believes that
the IE7--even at this beta stage--is a significant improvement
on the former one.
This
is Microsoft's third beta of Internet Explorer 7 and the
company plans to release more to the general public.
