Bhatt is new SBI chairman
Mumbai: O.P. Bhatt, managing director, State Bank
of India, has been elevated to the post of chairman of
the bank.
With
his five-year term expiring in March 2011 he will be among
longest serving SBI chairmen in the recent past. Bhatt
was appointed managing director of SBI in-charge of national
banking at SBI in April. Prior to this he was the MD,
State Bank of Travancore.
Following
the retirement of A.K. Purwar as chairman of SBI in May
this year T.S. Bhattacharya, the other SBI MD, was appointed
as acting chairman, However, he did not have a two-year
residual service, necessary for the post of chairman.
Bhatt started his career as a probationary officer in
SBI in 1972 and held several key assignments in the bank.
He served as managing director of State Bank of Travancore
from January 2005 to April 2006.

Independent
directors join BEL
Bangalore: Bharat Electronics has nine independent
directors on its board and seven whole-time or functional
directors and two part-time Government directors. The
nine part-time directors include professionals and academicians.
They are Bhupindar Singh, former CMD, STC; Prof N. Balakrishnan,
chairman, Information Science and Services Division, Indian
Institute of Science; Prof Ashok Jhunjhunwala, IIT Chennai;
Dr M. Rammohan Rao, Dean, Indian School of Business, Hyderabad;
K.G. Ramachandran, former CMD, BHEL; Dr V. Bhaktavatsalam,
former MD, IREDA; Dr Goverdhan Mehta, former Director,
IISc; S. Sadagopan, director, Indian Institute of Information
Technology, Bangalore; and Dr S.P. Parashar, Director,
IIM, Indore.

Aalok
Wadhwa appointed MD, LexisNexis
New Delhi: LexisNexis, an information and services
solutions company has appointed Aalok Wadhwa as its managing
director for the Indian Sub-continent region. Wadhwa's
responsibilities include identifying customer needs for
legal, business and news information, developing online
content and products, and opening new channels to serve
customer requirements. Before this appointment Wadhwa
was the chairman and managing director of the Corner Bookstore
Company and the managing director of Encyclopaedia Britannica,
where he looked after the Indian Sub-continent and Gulf
Cooperation Council region.
