Ashwini Kakkar acquires Oberoi's Mercury Travels

Kolkata: Ashwini Kakkar, former managing director of Thomas Cook India, is acquiring Oberoi Hotels' Mercury Travels. Kakkar will have 74.9 per cent stake in the travel company and the balance would be held by Oberoi Hotels through EIH.

The rearrangement in shareholding pattern would be achieved by fresh issue of shares.

The current equity of Mercury Travels is Rs3.4 crore. P R S Oberoi would continue to be the chairman of Mercury Travels and Ashwini Kakkar would be the executive vice chairman. Mukherji would also continue on the board.

Kakkar is currently the president of Travel Association of India, chairman of the World Travel & Tourism Council and a global director of United Federation of Travel Agents' Associations.

Mercury, which has 10 branch offices across India, would continue to operate all travel related services, business travel, inbound, outbound and domestic holidays, foreign exchange, travel insurance, meetings and incentives among others.
