MTHL project: Three consortiums shortlisted
Mumbai: Three consortiums have been shortlisted for the six-lane Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) project. The Rs4,000-crore project consists of building a 22-km bridge from Sewri in Central Mumbai to Nhava in Navi Mumbai.

The Maharashtra Government had recently appointed the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) as entrepreneur to implement the project on a build-own-transfer (BOT) basis. The MSRDC in turn invited pre-qualification bids through global tenders. Of the six consortiums that submitted pre-qualification bids, three consortiums have now received approval.

They are Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS), SKIL and John Laing Construction (UK), Larsen and Toubro, Gammon India Ltd and Sisterna Ltd (Russia) and Indian Farmers Fertilisers Corporation (IFFCO), Skanska Cementation and Italian Thai Development Company and MAEDA (Japan).

The three pre-qualified bidders have now been issued request for proposal (RFP) documents. The bids are expected to be made by the shortlisted consortium's in the next three months and the final award of contract is likely to be made in December.

TN Govt plans to computerise PDS network at Rs222-cr
Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Government plans to computerise the public distribution system (PDS) network in the State at a cost of Rs222.23-cr.

According to the policy note on Food and Consumer Protection tabled in the Assembly on Wednesday, a project report will soon be submitted to the Centre for consideration under the National e-Governance Action Plan. As per the proposal the State Government would like to network the Civil Supplies Department, the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation and the Co-operatives for more streamlined functioning of the PDS.

The PDS supplies essential commodities such as rice, sugar and kerosene at subsidised rates. In Tamil Nadu, the PDS provides universal coverage to the public as the State does not discriminate between those above and those below the poverty line.

For 2006-07, the food subsidy is estimated at Rs1,950 crore up from Rs 1,200 crore in 2005-06. There are over 1.89 crore family cards which enable the public to buy the commodities from the PDS outlets.
