Indra
Nooyi appointed CEO of PepsiCo International
New Delhi: Ms Indra Nooyi will become the chief
executive officer at PepsiCo International later this
year and is slated to be one of the most powerful women
in corporate America.
Over
the past several years as president, CFO and director
on the company's board, she has forged several changes
that had already earned her the reputation of a doer,
who has moved from strength to strength in the restructuring
of the company. The $33-billion PepsiCo has transitioned
from an aerated beverages company to an integrated food
major under her.
Apart
from this under her PepsiCo has undertaken other growth
strategies, including divesting the company's restaurants
into the successful YUM! Brands, Inc, the spin-off and
public offering of company-owned bottling operations into
anchor bottler Pepsi Bottling Group (PBG), and the merger
with Quaker Oats that brought the vital Quaker and Gatorade
businesses to PepsiCo.
Acquiring Tropicana brand too has been part of her accomplishments.
Nooyi
completed her bachelor's degree at Madras Christian College
and received a Masters in business administration at the
Indian Institute of Management. At the age of 23, she
went to the US to attend Yale University, where she completed
a Masters in public and private management. She then joined
Boston Consulting followed by Motorola, where she became
the director of corporate strategy and planning. She joined
PepsiCo in 1994.

HSBC
CEO Kidwai may have to resign from Nestle board
Mumbai: Naina Lal Kidwai, appointed CEO of HSBC
India in May, may have to step down as a director from
the board of Nestle SA, following an RBI directive to
the bank that she cannot continue to hold both the posts.
RBI's
directive could be due to the fact that Nestle SA has
an Indian subsidiary and Kidwai, being on the board of
Nestle SA, could give rise to conflict of interests, if
the bank were to lend to Nestle or its Indian subsidiary.
A
RBI spokesperson refused to comment on the matter. However,
the banking industry sources aver that the apex bank has
taken this step in the interest of maintaining highest
standards of corporate governance.
Kidwai,
who took over from Niall Booker as CEO on May 5 this year,
was appointed director on Nestle SA's Board in April,
a month before being appointed the CEO of HSBC India.
