extension of service for GAIL chairman
New Delhi: The central government has denied extension
of service to Proshanto Banerjee, CMD of GAIL India.
Banerjee's
term for five years came to an end on August 27, was denied
an extension of service till his superannuation a year
from now, official sources said. The senior-most director
on the board, S P Rao, has been made the acting CMD till
a full appointment is made.
Sources
said Banerjee was not given an extension of service because
of "his style of functioning and alleged victimisation
of officials including a director of the company board."
