Coca-Cola
restarts operations Afghanistan
Kabul: Coca-Cola Corp has again started operations
in Afghanistan by opening a new $25 million production
plant.
According
to Afghan President, Hamid Karzai, more such business
openings and investments will lead to a downturn in Afghanistan's
violence, which has reached its deadliest proportions
since US-led forces toppled the Taliban for harbouring
September 11, 2001, attack mastermind Osama bin Laden.
Around 350 people have got new jobs at the new plant.
Afghanis
however feel that Afghanistan needs investment for new
hospitals and ways to end the violence and not soft drinks.

US
auto sales fall
Detroit: U.S. auto sales are falling even as US
auto companies struggle to boost sales amid high gas prices
this year. Industry executives said the trend will continue
into the next year. Industry-wide sales are down more
than 4 percent this year even as U.S. automakers GM and
Ford are trying to stem billions of dollars in losses
while losing market share to Asian rivals such as Toyota
Motor Corp.
Analysts
and experts say a softening economy will likely lead to
a further decline in vehicle sales in 2007.
Slowing
housing activity can lead to lower pickup truck sales,
since the sales of such vehicles are driven by construction
activity.
The
auto industry benefited in recent years from the boom
in housing refinancing at lower interest rates, but U.S.
sales of pickup trucks have fallen nearly 14 per cent
so far this year. Overall sales at U.S. automakers are
down about 11 per cent.
