Rakesh Mohan to head financial sector panel
Mumbai:
The government in consultation with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is setting up a committee on financial sector assessment to analyse specific development and stability issues relevant to India.

The terms of reference of the committee, chaired by RBI deputy governor Rakesh Mohan, includes a comprehensive and objective assessment of the Indian financial sector, including its development efficiency, competitiveness and prudential aspects.

The other members of the committee are - Ashok Jha, secretary (economic affairs) as co-chairman, Ashok Lahiri, chief economic adviser to the finance ministry and Madhusudan Prasad, joint secretary in the central government.

The committee will identify appropriate areas, techniques and methodologies outlined in the Handbook on Financial Sector Assessment released by the World Bank and International Monetary Fund in September 2005 and also in any other documents relevant in the Indian context.

Raha receives 'Energy Executive of the Year' Award
New Delhi:
Subir Raha, the former chairman and managing director of Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC), has been awarded the prestigious 'Energy Executive of the Year' award instituted by the London-based renowned energy journal 'Petroleum Economist.'

The winner was announced at the awards ceremony on Wednesday at the Banqueting House, Whitehall in London.

In a communique, Petroleum Economist said that "Raha's appointment in 2001 launched a progressive period of investment and exploration that secured numerous commendations for clean energy and transparency initiatives for the ONGC group. The development of education and research programmes demonstrated Raha's commitment to the future of ONGC and the industry at large."

The venerable energy publication, the official publisher of most of the global energy events including World Petroleum Congress and World Gas Conference, has 10 Award categories, with the most coveted one being the 'Energy Executive of the Year Award.'

Airtel makes new appointments at innovation div
Kolkata:
Bharti Airtel has appointed Jai Menon, director and member of the apex Airtel management board, as head of its new IT and innovations division.

Airtel which is planning to expand its basket of non-voice products and services has also roped in Ravinder Takkar of Vodafone-US, who will work with the Airtel IT & innovations team over the next three years as an 'assignee' and will report to Menon.

Takkar will be the operations head of Airtel's content services factory that spearheads interactive content development across the mobile, TV and PC platforms.
