Branson
joins anti global warming brigade
Sir Richard Branson has joined the growing ranks of anti
global warming activists. He has committed $3bn (£1.6bn)
to tackle climate change as well as all profits from his
Virgin air and rail interests over the next 10 years to
combating rising global temperatures.
The
estimated $3bn would be invested in setting up a new division
Virgin Fuels under the Virgin conglomerate, which would
focus on plant based biofuels, fast emerging as an alternative
to oil-based fuels.
The
government has recently ordered petrol stations in the
UK to source 5 per cent of their fuel from renewable energy
by 2010, one of several lucrative opportunities for biofuel
producers such as Virgin.

No
outcome yet from GM, Nissan talks
New York: General Motors Corp's talks with Renault
SA and Nissan Motor Co. have led to little progress toward
a possible alliance said the Wall Street Journal on Thursday.
Next
week in Paris GM chief executive Rick Wagoner will meet
with the Renault and Nissan chief Carlos Ghosn, who sees
more value in a broad alliance than Wagoner does.

Oil
starts picking up
Tokyo: U.S. crude oil futures continued to rise to
touch $62 on Friday as some traders saw buying opportunities
after a dive to a six-month low earlier this week. U.S.
crude for November delivery briefly touched $62.00 a barrel
and was trading up 28 cents or 0.45 percent at $61.87
a barrel on the Globex electronic trading platform.
Technical
analysts have said a strong resistance at around $58-$60
could halt the fall, which was triggered by ample supplies
in the United States amid a seasonal dip in demand and
easing political riskes related to Iran's nuclear programme.
