Caparo
Group builds world's first T1 prototype
London: Lord Swraj Paul's Caparo Group has made the
first of two Caparo T1 prototypes, the world's first sports
car to surpass 1,000-BHP-per tonne.
The
ultra-lightweight car can reach a speed of 100 miles per
hour in just five seconds and can attain a maximum speed
of 200 miles per hour.
The
car has been created and designed by director Ben Scott-Geddes
and engineering director Graham Halstead.
After
the successful test run the Caparo group plans to roll
out the first batch of cars, destined for customers next
year.
Although
the company occupied brand-new premises when it was formed
earlier this year, it has already shifted to a new and
bigger location to accommodate more staff and production
facilities to help produce lightweight structural parts
for the aerospace and automotive industries.
The
company is on target to launch the first car in March
next year. The highly exclusive 'T1' will be built at
a rate of just two cars a month, redefining the aerospace
and automotive industry definition of 'ultra-low volume
production'.

Global
cell phone industry to slow down
London: Cellular phone sales growth globally will
slow down in 2006 before falling further to single-digit
percentage levels next year, as the saturation in developed
markets is far greater than the growth in emerging markets,
according to a research report.
London-based
Informa Telecoms & Media has said mobile handset sales
will rise to 943m units in 2006 from 814.4m last year,
and crossing the 1-bn mark next year to reach 1.03bn.
However this would be the last year of double-digit growth
the report said.
According
to the Informa report, handset sales growth year-on-year
in '07 will slow to 9.2 per cent from 16 per cent the
year before. For '06-11, it has forecast a compound annual
growth rate of 7.5 per cent against the over 20 per cent
growth seen in the preceding three years.
