Kelkar
joins HDFC board
Mumbai: Vijay Kelkar, former Union finance secretary
and chairman of Citi Bank's India Advisory Council, has
been appointed as special director on the board of HDFC
as Citigroup nominee
Citigroup
Strategic Holdings Mauritius Ltd and Citigroup Holdings
Mauritius hold 9.27 per cent and 3 per cent stake respectively
in HDFC.
Kelkar
also serves on the board of Tata Chemicals, Jet Airways
and Lupin, amongst others.

Subodh
Karnik to head US airline
Washington: Subodh Karnik a Mumbai lad, has been
appointed CEO of an American airline and is the third
Indian to hold a top job in the aviation industry in the
US.
A
graduate of the Birla Institute of Technology and Science
(BITS), Pilani and the University of Michigan's Ross School
of Business, Karnik will become president and chief executive
of ATA Airlines effective January 1, 2007. Earlier Rono
Dutta and Rakesh Gangwal, both alumni of the Indian Institute
of Technology (IIT), headed United Airlines and US Airways
respectively. ATA is smaller company than the other two.
"Subodh joined ATA in May 2005 and played a significant
role in the airlines' revival. He is credited with rescuing
ATA after being brought in as CFO from Delta Airlines
(where he was senior vice-president). He was later made
COO.
The
Indianapolis-based ATA entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy in
October 2004 and emerged last February as a smaller company
operating 29 airliners, compared to 64 before the bankruptcy.
The airline employs 2700 people worldwide, including 700
in Indianapolis.
