NTPC appoints advisor
NTPC has appointed former chairman of Coal India (CIL), Sashi Kumar, as an advisor.

Senior NTPC officials said the company has formed a special mining group to oversee mining activities and Kumar has been conferred the powers of a director.

Kumar has more than 30 years of experience in the coal sector and served as the chairman of CIL for three years till mid of '06.

"We are currently in the process of applying for clearances from different departments of the government. Mining is likely to commence at our Pakri Barwadih block in the North Karanpura coalfields in Bihar from '08-09," the official said.

KJ Jawa sales head of Voltas quits
New Delhi: Voltas' sales and marketing head KJ Jawa has resigned and his portfolio will be handled by Sanjay Johri the executive vice president and COO of Voltas. Jawa was also looking after the company's manufacturing units and was on the board of Voltas' joint venture with the US-based airconditioning major Fedders.

Until now, Johri was in-charge of strategic planning and the COO for material handling, mining & construction equipment and the unitary cooling products divisions of the company, apart from being the head of sales and marketing for airconditioners and commercial refrigeration.

Jawa would leave the company by next month.

Industry grapevine has it that he would be the country head of a MNC engaged in consumer durables.
