Oberoi conferred Lifetime Achievement Award
Kolkata: The Tata-AIG Lifetime Achievement Award
has been conferred on PRS Oberoi, chairman of the Oberoi
Group, at the recent Galileo Express TravelWorld Awards
2006.
According
to an official note from The Oberoi Group, the award has
been given in recognition of "Mr Oberoi's long involvement
and contribution to the hospitality sector, and his pioneering
leadership in making The Oberoi Group a global brand,
by taking the concept of luxury and excellence in service
to a new paradigm." The Trident Hilton also received
the award for the `Best First Class Hotel Brand', for
the second year in a row.

DSP Merrill Lynch, Amit
Chandra,
MD resigns
Mumbai: Amit Chandra MD and board member of DSP
Merill Lynch has resigned from the investment firm which
saw some senior level exits last year also. Chandra who
was with the firm for the last 13 years also heads its
global markets and investment banking division.
Chandra
according to sources is likely to launch his private equity
fund. DSP Merrill Lynch in a release said that he will
remain in the firm throughout the year to ensure a smooth
transition.
Hemendra
Kothari, chairman, DSP Merrill Lynch has taken over Chandra's
operating responsibilities.
Other
who have left DSP Merrill Lynch in the past couple of
years include Sunil Mehra, director healthcare, who left
to join Standard Chartered Bank as MD in the investment
banking division, Ravi Kapoor the head of equity origination
and capital markets quit to join Citi to head its capital
markets team, Rajeev Gupta the joint MD and head of investment
banking quit to join US based Carlyle as MD and head of
India Buyout Group.
DSP
had earlier this year hired Munesh Khanna as MD and head
of India Investment banking.

Soren's
resignation accepted by President APJ Kalam
New Delhi: The President, A P J Abdul Kalam has
accepted the resignation of Union Coal Minister Shibu
Soren from the council of ministers. The Prime Minister
had forwarded Soren's resignation from the council of
ministers after a Delhi court yesterday found him guilty
of conspiring to kidnap and murder his private secretary
Shashi Nath Jha twelve years ago.
