Society awards Mittal with 'Leadership Award'
New York: The Asia Society in New York has honoured
Steel tycoon Lakshmi N Mittal by awarding him with its
'Leadership Award' for business acumen, entrepreneurship
and tenacity, witnessed during his takeover bid of Arcelor.
Managing
director of Goldman Sachs Henry Cornell, who presented
the award to Mittal, said, "Indians can be rightly
proud of the epic, blockbuster and historic deal that
he (Mittal) managed despite odds. It was the result of
Mittal's vision, capability and tenacity that the Arelor
deal went through."
The
Asia Society also honoured chairman and CEO of Citigroup
Charles O. Prince with the Leadership Award for his contribution
to the financial sector.

Mittal is richest person in UK
London: Leading UK newspaper's The Sunday Times
Rich List reveals that seven of the ten wealthiest
billionaires living in Britain are from overseas. Also
the city has as many as 40 billionaires.
Topping
the list is NRI steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal whose wealth
has gone up to 14.8 billion pounds. Roman Abramovich,
the Russian oil tycoon and Chelsea football club owner,
comes second with a fortune worth 11 billion pounds --
an increase of 3 billion over last year.
The
combined wealth of the top ten on the list is 52.55 billion
pounds -- 10 billion pounds more than the top 200 a decade
ago.
It
is also the highest wealth total yet recorded and represents
a 23.3 per cent rise on last year.
The
others in top ten are Duke of Westminster (5.6b pounds),
Hans Rausing (4.95 b pounds) Philip and Christina Green
(4.85 b pounds), Oleg Deripaska (4.37 b pounds), Sir Richard
Branson (3 b pounds), Kirsten and Jorn Rausing (2.75 b
pounds), David and Simon Reuben (2.5 b pounds) and Spiro
Latsis family (2.4 b pounds).
New
entries this year include inventor James Dyson, newspaper
proprietor Richard Desmond, and Iraqi-Born tycoon Nadhmi
Auchi.
The
wealthiest woman on the list is Christina Green, who shares
a 4.85 billion pounds fortune with her husband, retail
giant Philip Green.

Mumbai: D.S. Das, a chief general manager of State
Bank of India has been appointed as the new managing director
and CEO of SBI Factor and Commercial Services Pvt. Ltd,
a SBI Group company.
Das
was the head of SBI's corporate accounts group at Delhi.

Lok
Sabha's criminal hall of fame
New Delhi: Around 10 ministers in Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh's ministry and 93 Lok Sabha MPs face criminal
charges ranging from murder to rape besides extortion
and even attempt to commit suicide.
Jharkhand
Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Shibu Soren has been sentenced
to life imprisonment for murder. Soren remains a Lok Sabha
member.
Cricketer
turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu has received a suspended
sentence of three years for causing the death of a man
in a road rage. Sidhu however has resigned from the house.
Among
central ministers, Mohammed Ali Ashraf, a minister of
state in the human resources development ministry, faces
serious charges ranging from extortion and links with
the underworld and kidnapping gangs.
Textiles
minister, Shankersinh Vaghela, faces two corruption cases.
The other ministers who have cases against them in the
courts include railway minister Lalu Prasad, minister
of state for agriculture Taslimuddin, minister of state
for women and child development, Renuka Choudhry, for
obstructing a public servant, minister of state in food
and public distribution, Suryakanta Patil, minister of
state for urban development, Ajay Maken, minister of state
for water resources, Jai Prakash Yadav, cheating and criminal
conspiracy, agriculture minister, Sharad Pawar, under
the religious institution act and minister for company
affairs, Prem Chand Gupta for foreign exchange violations.
