Govt
may clear two textile parks for Punjab
New Delhi: The Government may clear two private sector
textile parks in Punjab, out of the four sanctioned for
the country by the Planning Commission.
The
textile ministry has received a nod for four parks from
the Planning Commission early last month under the Scheme
for Integrated Textile Park (SITP), sources said.
The
Plan panel had recommended that at least 2-3 textile parks
should be set up in Punjab, while stipulating that the
number of parks should not exceed 30 under the 10th Plan
period, they said.
Till
now, the government has cleared 26 textile parks under
the current Plan period that ends in March 31, 2007.
The
Centre has received two proposals from Punjab, one from
Abhishek Integrated Textile Park in Sangrur and other
from Ludhiana Integrated Textile Park, Ludhiana, a textile
ministry official confirmed.
Out
of the 26 parks cleared under the SITP scheme, none have
come in Punjab.

approves OBC reservation bill

provide 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in higher education
institutions, rejecting the Parliamentary Standing Committee's
recommendation that the creamy layer be excluded. The
Bill will be introduced in Parliament during this session.
It retains the same framework as the one introduced in
the monsoon session. Sources in the HRD Ministry said
OBC Muslims too would get the quota benefit. Minority
institutions will remain out of the Bill's ambit.
