Inflation drops marginally
New Delhi:
Inflation based on the wholesale price index (WPI) dropped to 5.30 per cent for the week ended November 25 when compared with 5.45 per cent in the previous week due to the fall in prices of food items.
Inflation based on WPI stood at 4.48 per cent during the corresponding week last year.

Govt may clear two textile parks for Punjab
New Delhi
: The Government may clear two private sector textile parks in Punjab, out of the four sanctioned for the country by the Planning Commission.

The textile ministry has received a nod for four parks from the Planning Commission early last month under the Scheme for Integrated Textile Park (SITP), sources said.

The Plan panel had recommended that at least 2-3 textile parks should be set up in Punjab, while stipulating that the number of parks should not exceed 30 under the 10th Plan period, they said.

Till now, the government has cleared 26 textile parks under the current Plan period that ends in March 31, 2007.

The Centre has received two proposals from Punjab, one from Abhishek Integrated Textile Park in Sangrur and other from Ludhiana Integrated Textile Park, Ludhiana, a textile ministry official confirmed.

Out of the 26 parks cleared under the SITP scheme, none have come in Punjab.

Cabinet approves OBC reservation bill
New Delhi:
The Union Cabinet has approved a Bill to provide 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in higher education institutions, rejecting the Parliamentary Standing Committee's recommendation that the creamy layer be excluded. The Bill will be introduced in Parliament during this session. It retains the same framework as the one introduced in the monsoon session. Sources in the HRD Ministry said OBC Muslims too would get the quota benefit. Minority institutions will remain out of the Bill's ambit.
