TRAI to consult telco operators on roaming tariffs
New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of
India (TRAI) plans to consult with all telecom operators
on roaming tariffs as there is a growing feeling that
there should not be any roaming charges when the subscriber
is within the same network.
TRAI
will hold an open house discussion here tomorrow with
all the stakeholders, including national operators and
other regional players, on "Review of Ceiling Tariffs
for Roaming Services."

GM
India's sales up 16 per cent in 2006
New Delhi: General Motors India (GMI) registered
a 16.2 pc growth in sales at 35,823 units in 2006 as against
sales of 30,837 units in 2005 on the back of three Chevrolet
models, the Aveo, SRV and Aveo U-VA.

Balendran, vice president of GMI, said the year 2006 marked
the greatest product offensive in the company's history
as the Chevrolet Indian Revolution picked up momentum.
The company reported 19.4 pc sales growth in December
2006 at 2,583 units as against 2,163 units in the same
month in 2005.
The
company sold 1,517 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 759 units
of Chevrolet Aveo and 307 units of Chevrolet Optra in
December.

Hero
Honda sells 2.45 lakh bikes in December
New Delhi: Hero Honda Motors reported a marginal
increase in motorcycle sales for the month of December
2006 at 2,45,175 units against 2,45,104 units sold in
December 2005.
The
company sold 7,287 units of its scooterette, Pleasure,
in December.
Total
sales (including exports) for December stood at 2,52,462
units as against 2,45,104 units in the same month a year
ago, an increase of 3 pc.

Bajaj
to launch DTSi scooter Crystal
Pune: Bajaj Auto is planning to launch a new automatic
scooter under the brand name of Crystal built on the DTSi
platform.
The new scooter will be launched later this month.
The
company at its annual general meeting had announced a
breakthrough in terms of the DTSi technology, and said
a highly environment-friendly product would be introduced
in the near future.
The
statement also said the company will increase its motorcycles
production to 300,000 per month by March 2007.
Bajaj
Auto sold 1, 87,000 motorcycle units in December 2006,
a 26 per cent growth over December 2005 sales of 1, 48,000
units.

BHEL
to increase capacity to 15,000 MW
New Delhi: Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has
announced an investment of Rs3,200 crore in the 11th Plan
to expand annual equipment manufacturing capacity to 15,000MW.
The
company recently completed its first phase of expansion
to increase capacity to 10,000 MW at an investment of
Rs1,200 crore and is now developing a plan to expand further.
The
total investment of Rs3,200 crore would be in a combination
of expansion through brownfield capacity and modernisation
of existing facilities. Bhel would spend Rs2,500 crore
on expansion and the rest Rs700 crore for modernization.
The
expansion and modernization would be in motion in the
11th Plan (2007-2012).

Maruti
still leads with 24-per cent market share
New Delhi: Maruti Udyog's sales increased by 23.7
per cent at 56,985 vehicles in December 2006 against 46,079
in the year-ago period.
The
sales rise was led by the premium hatchback compact segment
cars - the Alto, Wagon-R, Zen and Swift - which grew by
35.6 per cent on year-on-year basis to 38,461 units (28,367
in the corresponding month last year).
Sales
in the C segment - the Omni and Versa - grew 40.6 per
cent to 6,523 vehicles in December this year compared
with 4,638 vehicles in December last year.
Driven
by demand in the rural market, sales of Maruti's entry-level
hatchback M-800 grew by a modest 0.5 per cent to 7,289
cars during the month (7,252).
However,
the premium C segment sedans - Baleno and Esteem - witnessed
a fall in sales by 13.5 per cent at 2,127 cars from the
year-ago figure of 2,459.
