may close down many schemes
New Delhi: The Finance Ministry wants to scrap 120
central sector schemes in the coming 11th Five Year Plan
which may to a number of people losing jobs.
The
120 centrally sponsored schemes worth Rs2,179.83 crores,
currently operational in the 10th Plan may not be allowed
to spill over into the 11th Plan said senior government
sources.
The
Finance Ministry has proposed a budgetary allocation of
Rs50 crore for the Department of Expenditure, which would
be used in relocation of manpower and meeting the establishment
expenditure, till the schemes are wound up, sources said.
This will ensure that no funds are made available for
schemes scheduled to close down at the end of the 10th
Plan, sources said.
According
to the existing guidelines on relocation of manpower,
the employees who would be rendered surplus following
closure of the schemes would be put in the Surplus Cell
of the government for a year and the ministries would
be asked to accord preference to them while ascertaining
their manpower needs. If after a year they remained unemployed,
then they could be forcibly retired.

Railways
expect record earnings by March end
Nagpur: The Central Railways is expected to achieve
an increase of Rs 600 crore in earnings at the end of
current financial year senior railway officials said
"By
March-end 2007, Central Railways will have a revenue collection
of over Rs5,400 crore,"

general manager V K Kaul told a press conference here
last night.
He
said freight earnings were up 32 per cent and passenger
earnings by 25 per cent. The most important operating
ratio has come down to Rs85 (rupees spend on earning Rs100),
he asserted.

plans micro hydel projects in backward areas
Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh Government plans to
set up 16 micro hydel projects, each of 1 MW or more,
in the identified tribal areas for meeting the energy
needs of tribals.
The
State is taking up a range of energy programmes that include
solar energy (interior village electrification projects),
Biomass (in which Andhra Pradesh is the leader in India),
Biofuels (tree-borne non-edible oils), energy from waste
and the micro hydel projects.
